2 Surveys Indicate Some Retreat Among Private Student Lenders
Many private colleges and universities are seeing access to private student loans, as well as some federal loans, dry up a bit, according to two reports released this week that link poor conditions for borrowers to troubled credit markets on Wall Street.
While neither report turned up instances of students being unable to obtain federal loans, both found that some lenders are cutting borrower benefits, tightening credit requirements, and discontinuing some types of loans.
