Dillard, Xavier drop workers; LSU predicts big layoffs, too; a medical school can't return
The economic effects of Hurricane Katrina continued to batter New Orleans's colleges last week, as two historically black universities slashed their faculties and staffs by more than half, a statewide university system predicted sweeping layoffs, and a prestigious medical school announced that it would not be able to return to the city this spring.
