The U.S. Department of Labor released a report today that incorporates more than 15,000 comments from employees and employers about the effectiveness of the Family and Medical Leave Act.
The department said a majority of the comments were from people who were thankful that the 1993 law had made it easier for them to care for a family member or manage a serious health condition of their own; from people who wanted the provisions of the law expanded to allow for more time off, more paid benefits, and coverage of additional family members; and from employers who were frustrated by the effect of unscheduled, intermittent leaves on their workplaces. —Audrey Williams June
