12 Students, a Million Trees
New York City had a problem.
Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg had allocated $400-million toward planting a million trees throughout the city's five boroughs. But the money was earmarked for actual trees and planting, with none set aside for planning where and in what order to plant.
The solution: Get free help from a team of scientists and students at the University of Vermont. In exchange, the 12 graduate and undergraduate students get to participate in a hands-on learning experience
